I’ve reposted this shot several times over the years to sort of reclaim it from ppl like Area Billionaire Ron Conway, who makes more money from my snapshots over the years than I do, through the Pinterest, right?

Now back in the Aughts, the Golden Age of Blogging, I’d make the posts and then sometimes, rarely, Comments would exceed 500, which was some sort of limit at the time. And then in The Tens, I think this post was as good as things got, with ppl spotting orange birds about Cali and then ending up here with an answer year after year, ’round about May.

Anyway, here’s a shot from 5/24/2006 the EXIF tells me, using a Canon 1D Mark II body, a Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM lens, a Canon EF 1.4x I extender (which helped with focusing, targeting), and a Canon Speedlite 550EX E-TTL flash, IRRC and I do. And then I erased the second catchlight in birdy’s eye and left in the circle of white from El Sol. Believe this sort of shot is called an animal portrait, by ppl who don’t nec. approve of animal portraiture.

And play us out, Mission San Juan Capistrano:

Swallows Legend
